Program assists propane retailers with farm customers
June 2, 2010Propane retailers can become the energy-efficiency expert in their agricultural community by helping farm customers develop agricultural energy management plans, or AgEMPs. The Natural Resource Conservation Service, a federal agency, has announced a program that will pay for 75 percent of the cost of developing an AgEMP for the farm. Propane retailers identify farmers who are good candidates for equipment updates, like those with inefficient grain dryers, furnaces or water heaters. Another program from the Department of Agriculture may pay 25 percent of the cost of upgrading inefficient equipment with newer, more efficient models. Certain states are eligible. EnSave, a licensed provider of certified energy audits, can guide propane dealers and farmers through the process. The company is a PERC training partner.
