NPGA names 2010-11 officers
July 1, 2010NPGA elected its 2010-11 officers at the mid-year board of directors meeting last month prior to Propane Days in Washington, D.C.
• Roland Penta was elected chairman. Penta has been the president of Phelps Sungas Inc. since 1973. He also served as president of American Propane Inc. from 1994 to 1996 and Finger Lakes Gas Equipment Corp. from 1989 to 1996. Penta has held various positions with NPGA, including chairman-elect (2009-2010), vice chairman (2008-2009) and treasurer (2007-2008). Previously, he served as PropanePAC chairman, District 9 director, chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, and as New York state director to NPGA until 2007. He brings more than 40 years of industry experience marketing propane and propane equipment.
• Carl Hughes was named chairman-elect. Hughes is the senior vice president of business development for Inergy LP, a role he has held since 1998. He is an active member of NPGA and since 2002 has sat on the Executive Committee and been an NPGA board member-at-large. Hughes served as the Governmental Affairs Committee chairman from 2006-2008. He also is a business columnist for LP Gas magazine.
• Ray Murray was elected vice chairman. Murray is the co-chairman of Ray Murray Inc. and has been in the business since 1973. He is highly involved with NPGA and has served on the Executive Committee, as Conventions Committee chairman and as distributors section chairman. Murray has served on the executive board of the New York Propane Education & Research Council and as treasurer and secretary of the New York Propane Gas Association.
• Gary France was elected treasurer. France has been in the propane industry since he was a child. He began his career when he was 13, sandblasting and painting tanks. In 1990 he formed France Propane Service Inc. France has been active in the Wisconsin Propane Gas Association serving as chair of the education and legislative committees, and as president. He is also an active member in NPGA, serving as chairman of the Member Services Committee and PAC chairman. France brings many years of industry experience.
