DOT approves composite forklift cylinder for January 2010 launch

December 1, 2009

The Lite Cylinder Co. announced that its 33-pound composite forklift cylinder has been approved by the Department of Transportation under revised special permit #14562 and will be available in January 2010. The cylinder is translucent, so no gauge is needed. According to the company, the corrosion-free cylinder is the same weight as aluminum and 30 percent lighter than steel. The cylinders are also interlocking and stackable. The 33-pound composite forklift cylinder had been taken out of service in 2007 after five of them ruptured while in storage.
